Etamine is called the "Pongee among the wool fabrics". Being fabricated from merino wool (with 19.5 micron) makes it cuddly soft. It can be dyed excellently with steam fixable silk colours - and the colours shine and glow on this fine material! Equally, cloth printing with thickened silk colour and Shibori-dyeings superbly come into their own. Of course this also applies to coloured Etamine.

For this material a superwash finish was deliberately avoided. Therefore both the natural white and the coloured wool etamine can be felted excellently. Suggestions for this can be found in this IDEEN.com-Journal article.

The first example shows a design with partially felted FLYFEL®-tops. Before felting, the fine merino and silk fibres were carefully dyed with walnut hulls in natural hues of brown. The loosely applied wool terrifically bonds with the merino fabric of the same fibre quality, although the felting process does take a little longer than with delicate chiffon silk. The Etamine is used in loom state, and worked until the surface of the fabric starts to felt and becomes slightly crinkled.
