Vegetable dyeing for beginners:
Juglans regia, the endemic walnut tree, offers a wide variety of brown and green shades for the dyer.
Especially the fresh green hulls of the fruit have an enormous dyeing power. The naturally high portion of tanning agent makes additional usage of mordant dispensable. This is ideal for anyone wishing to dye the absolutely natural way.
But also the walnut tree leaves, bark, and roots are suited for dyeing. Walnut dyes are not only very shiny, but also light-fast and permanently lasting.

We have experimented with different types of dyeing and different slivers, on different silk fabrics and merino wool.
Some chosen examples are presented in this IDEEN.com-Journal article.
