Striped Etamine 10

A very elegant Etamine out of a transparent, silk base material with worked in, unevenly wide stripes crosswise out of high quality linen fibers. The stripes are framed by a super fine weft thread out of shiny nylon.
The linen layer appears like "applied", an effect that really becomes apparent after painting or dyeing. Through that the Etamine receives two very different looking sides, which are both usable to the same degree.
Zoom in...in the picture you can see the details of this weaving finesse, which are not visible to the naked eye.

A gorgeous fabric for extraordinary fashion creations! Due to the mixture of protein (silk) and cellulose fibers (linen), this fabric is also very well suitable for the 2 color dyeing technique.

For this pattern example different techniques were combined.

This is how it works:
First spread several flower shaped FLYFEL^®-pads onto stretched white silk and draw a rough outline with wax. The painted flowers should be around 2-4cm larger than the felted ones. You can also paint circles around the inner shapes, which will later be covered by the felted on flowers. Afterward paint the flowers colorfully and the inner circles in a contrasting color. The background is painted in different shades of green.
If the regular steam-fixable silk paint is used, the linen part absorbs the paint just as well as the silk part of the fabric.
After fixation, felt the FLYFEL^®-pads singly by hand or wholly in the dryer or with the pad sander ;).

Important to know: When working with the soap sud used for felting, it can happen that the color in the cellulose fibers, in this case linen, bleeds out. This can be purposefully used as a design effect.
The effects of different felting agents can vary. Please do a little felting test with your personal soap mixture.

In this picture you can very well see the two different looks of the front and back side. On one side, here in the bottom of the picture, the linen fibers are almost covered by the etamine fabric. While on the other side, in the top of the picture, the shining linen fibers seem to lay loosely.
Choose the most beautiful of the two versions!

This sample specimen was dip-dyed in black silk colour. The linen fibres only absorb a hint of the colour, and the result is a noble black-silver shimmering fabric for elegant stoles or transparent blouses and dresses.
